Welcome to the course website for MIT AeroAstro and MIT Media Lab’s joint course offering Operating in the Lunar Environment, an in-depth and hands-on exploration into the design and engineering challenges posed by operating in the lunar environment. Students will work in teams to design a payload to address strategic objectives associated with NASA’s Artemis program, aiming to enable near-term sustainable settlements on the lunar surface. The course will cover three main topic areas:
Develop and refine a mission concept over the course of the semester, following NASA HQ and JPL Formulation techniques
Actively contribute to the design and construction of a lunar payload that may fly onboard MIT’s To the Moon To Stay mission
Engage with policymakers and roadmapping tools to develop a comprehensive understanding of current and near-future lunar stakeholder activity.
